By now, my Turbo Street/Dragster Project is nearly finalized.
I just want to say thanks to all you guys who have helped me with your knowledge
and with bike-parts of course.
I’ve learned a lot, since I’m an .org member about the Busa and about English language :D
The bike was build for using on the street and for dragracing in Europe.
I am a dragracer since 10 years, but mostly on wheelybar bikes .
This month I was the first time with my turbobusa on the track.
My time was a 9,3s / 158mph (with normal foot-shifting).
I think, I need much more seat time with my bike, to go hopefully faster.
Mike
A special thanks goes to:
Guy from Tiger Racing for the sponsoring
Kojak, J.oe and Greg (Shiftlight, Turbo/Boostcontroller)
Canadian Mike for the top quality swingarm
Scary-Jerry and Nem
Charles from Street’n Track
Matt from Cycle-tek
BigChief, Busa58 and Reaper
and all the other guys.

The shifter is on the way. :thumb:

good luck, you guys really have your hands tied with not being able to keep the front end from rising so much.

I was in my garage today to strip the busa for the new project.
But only 2 hours. It was fucking cold there.........

Stripping the busa mike ? what are you gonna do ? drag bike??
-
Stripping the busa mike ? what are you gonna do ? drag bike??
Not this bike Charly.
This is my all day street bike.
Bought a cheap 2. Busa and got very nice used parts from members of this board :thumb:
Longer swingarm, 2" oilpan, MTC Clutch ......
The new bike would be street legal in the US, but not here in Germany.
So youre right, its a dragbike for SSB.
Mike

Hey Mike, you mentioned your HP was in metric so I assume 324PS is in NM? How does that convert to SAE corrected HP? (like what we Americans use...) Just curious if its the same or not.... your turbo kit is making very similar power to mine. I made 317@17lbs...... but I stick to 15lbs for our 93 oct. pump gas and its around 295-300hp. RCC stg 2 kit....

PS means hp, dont't know how SAE corrected hp differ to wheel hp measured by the dyno here. NM means torque in metric Newton/Meter. Nm x 0,74 = ft/lbs. So 301 NM should be approx. 225 ft/lbs.
Jürgen
-
Sorry Alan. You are right. This is an US board and I should have use the correct semantics.
238 PS is about 319 HP. Ive found a calculator in the net.
The 319 hp were at 18psi of boost (normally).
But the boost gauge was reeling up and down between 10 and 15 psi :?
@ J.OE: Thanks Jürgen for the torque calculation :thumb:
Mike
-
Yeah I hear ya.....my boost gauge reads one thing, my LM1 reads another, and my MT2 reads a different number all together.
SO I assume you are running the 19lbs on pump gas since you guys have 98 octane over there.....320hp on a daily rider must be a blast.... I can't wait to get mine on a real dyno...the last dyno I was on was a total joke. I want to get it on JOhnny Cheeses DJ250i with some big fans on it and really play with the boost. Its tuned pretty good to 15lbs, after that its WAY rich. I want to turn it up enough to break 400rwhp... I figure it will take 26-27lbs to do it on my turd. More importantly, I want to make an honest 300hp on pump gas(15lbs).
Good job on yours Mike! Post up more pics when you can... :thumb:
-
Hi Alan
What type of turbo do you have bolted up ? 27 lbs are way much for making 400 hp.
-
Alan, you are right. The max boost is 18psi on 98 US octaine (100 octaine ROZ).
My internals are all stock. Rods, pistons, main studs etc.
And over 300hp is a lot on the street in my opinion.
@ Joe
What is the max boost I could ride with my small turbo and your boost controller (theoretical ) ?
-
@ Joe
What is the max boost I could ride with my small turbo and your boost controller (theoretical ) ?
Hi Mike
Well, the compressor map of the 16T says that it can make max. 23 psi.
And if you turn the switch of 6th gear fo position "F", there should occur approx. 23 psi. :thumb:
Generally: It doesn't depend on the turbo, how much boost the controller is going to adjust. This only depends on boost controller and wastegate.
... provided that the turbo can make the pressure and deliver the air flow.
Jürgen
-
What is the stretch on your bike and what inch over is that street tail? Great looking setup. Thanks
-
Thanks for the info Jürgen. 18psi is enought for my engine setup. For sure !!!
@ ACE 23
As you can see on the race pics, Ive used an underbraced swingarm 3 - 9" from Canadian Mike.
Set on 5-6" over, dependent on the rear wheel sprocket.
The shorter swingarm (you can see it at the newer pics) is 0-6" over. Set on max. 4" for the street.
Furthermore is the Busa a little bit higher for the nice curves in my home area. :D
The tail is from catalyst and 4" longer.
Hope,I was able to help.

Thanks for the help. That bike is badass, I'm on the fence on whether to paint mine "07 black, 07 blue, or dodge viper red" I love all 3 colors and I'm having a real hard time deciding, i see alot of black bikes on the board but I don't see many solid red and blue
-
Yup, thats a tough choice :D
Black is my first choice at all, but I know there are many black bikes out there.
Take a nice deep dark blue :thumb:
My sec favorite color!

Aah Blue! :thumb:
Best choice, not second, Mike!

Hey Mike!
That's nice. Congratulations!
Finished my bike last week. Made some modifications.

Your Busa is awesome.
It looks very nice with the 1K tail. (in blue of course :D)
Ballbeared turbos are nice, too.
You get the boost power earlier than with "normal" turbos.
Very useful for street riding.

top racers. :thumb:

It was very impressive to run against you in the half final last year in Drachten.
What a bummer that you have not hit the 7s. It was so close.
Perhaps we can rerun our race a little bit faster this year. Perhaps :D

Yup, there was too much "sand" in the bearings from sand blasting.
Ive protected the bearings, but the sand has found his way :?

First I wanted to take my black stock wheels but I thought a little contrast could be lookin nice.
So I ride the black ones on my street busa.
Advantage: The chrome wheels are not street legal out here  but the stock rims are (of course)!
-
What about the chrome wheels is not street legal?
-
What about the chrome wheels is not street legal?
Yes. This is a local problem here in Germany
You need for near every part you replace from stock to aftermarket an official certificate of conformity.
And that is very expensive. Not every company has made it for their parts.
This is the reason, why it is not allowed to ride a RCC or BigCC Turbo system or Shinkos or galver rotors or .......... on the street. :(
You are faster an "Outlaw" than you want.
I think I should change my name in Outlaw-Mike :hys:
-
Fortunately I don't have to Pass TÜV Standards... but I do have to pass Noise Decibal Levels and safety related items. 8)
But not much longer, all my stuff and BIKES ship in 2 weeks... :woot:
I will be America Bound Mid June = Virginia :USA:

:thumb:
No more TÜV.
Ride a dump pipe on your turbo, Jerry :D
BTW: Do you have seen this vid Jerry? Its your old bike (RIP)

Damn, Mike. That sux. How would or do they know what's A/M or stock though?
-
Damn, Mike. That sux. How would or do they know what's A/M or stock though?
You can see it in our "vehicle registration certificate" we must take with us and there are a lot of cops who have a clue about it.
The reason for it is to eliminate dangerous parts or parts who have a bad influence on your bike from the market.
But things are never as bad as they seem
Besides sound intensity and CO2 exhaust. There is no mercy :tz:
-
Damn, Mike. That sux. How would or do they know what's A/M or stock though?
If it does not Carry the manufacturer's Markings = You need to provide TÜV Documentation:
- Tires - Yes, other than OEM are not permitted unless stated in your Title Booklet
- Wheels
- Exhaust
- Windscreens
- Brakelines
- E V E R Y T H I N G
After Market industry has it very bad over here. :x
-
Damn it. Never knew that.
-
Did somebody of you know, how to remove the big spacer from the Driveshaft of the tranny?
It is press-fitted.
Reason:
I want to install a bigger output shaft.
Thanks Mike

Oh, Im sorry, Cory.
Having a blonde moment :?
What is the "bigclip mod"
-
I'm not 100% sure either.
But I think it's when you replace the keepers in between the gears with heavy duty snap rings.
I don't know how much you really need it or how much it really helps, I just heard someone mention it to me before...

No, Ive not installed the heavy duty snap rings.
Only a new bearing, bigger output shaft and some shift shafts.
Hope, I can reassemble the engine this weekend.
Im late
Mike

I didn't and have no issues without doing that and don't know anyone who has, spend your hard earned money somewhere else :thumb:

I made a big mistake yesterday.
Used the wrong assy lube for the rod and crank bearings. :duh:
I disassembled the complete engine again and did the same work twice today.
But everything is OK now.

SWEET build Mike....Those wheels look kick ass....
You putting the MCX kit back on or doing something else?
"Never touch a runnin system"
My MCX Busa is still complete.
The bike is street legal here and I ride it so often as Ive time.
Ive decide to let the bike complete.
This is one reason why my new bike assembly takes so long because of small money :brk:
The new Busa is mostly for dragracing.
I will take a Garret gt30 turbo with selfmade plenum (from J.OE and Kojak) and a water/air intercooler.
Hope that works for the quarter mile :D
Mike

Lookin Nice Mike :thumb:
Will you make the 25-26 April at Luckau?
...or just ride the 8.8 second Street Bike? 8)
-
Yes, Jerry. I'll be there in Luckau for sure.
When nothing goes wrong, I will be in Luckau with the new bike.
But Ive a time problem.
If not, I will try to change my "8,8" bike into a 8,7 bike  or 8,6 or ......
Are you there, too?
-
The new bike is not ready for the first T&T next week :(
Anyway, Ive prepared my street Turbobusa for the test and tune.
Longer wheelbase, lowering links, dragseat ......
I hope the weather will be fine and we have some fun there.

Thanks :D
Mike how long is your turbo bike?
Its a Canadian Mike swingarm 0 - 6 ".
For street riding I use 3-4" over.
For dragracing (like on the pic) I set the axle near the maximum (5-6").
-
I think thats a CM 6in over swingarm. It looks very familiar......LOL

-
I was thinking the same thing. It does look uncluttered.
-
Yes, it looks clean at the moment, but I must still install a lot of things.
Boost controller, controller for the injectors, shiftlight, launch limiter and so on.
I dont think that it looks so uncluttered after all that work :?
@ ACE
Ive bought a cheap camera for dummies, just like me

I may have to get a government bail out to work on my bike! :D
:thumb:
German government bail out is 500.000.000.000 € :bah:
So: 500.000.000.000 / 80.000.000 inhabitants = 6250 € = 8000 $ per person
THAT WOULD HELP ME A LOT :hys:

So....the fuel rail and secondary injector wires fit inside the plenum?
Jason
-
First we planed to use a mcXpress plenum to modified it.
But that became too expensive and was not worthwhile.
So, in the end we / Jürgen ("J.OE") made everything by himself. Plenum and fuel rail.
Mike
-
Damn, that was a good weekend !
The engine is runnin :D :D :D
We had only a few problems (water pump and ignition timing) but no big things in the end.
Thanks a lot Paul (Kojak) and Jürgen (J.oe) for your great help :thumb:

I hope the bike is running well at Hockenheim in August.
But time is short like ever.
After the dragrace this weekend, my son, my wife and me are on vacation for 2 weeks on the Canary Islands.

:thumb:
1. 7psi
2. 14psi
3.-6. Max. (18psi)
18psi is the absolute maximum for my bike with pump piss (100 ROZ) and all stock internals. :?

Cool! Thanks for the info. :thumb:

18 lbs on stock internals???? WOW

18 lbs on stock internals???? WOW
I know, its very close at the limit.
Ive a lot of luck with the engine. Knock on wood
The only thing that was different to a stock engine is the 0,080 spacer.

what was the numbers on the dyno with the 18 lbs boost.

what was the numbers on the dyno with the 18 lbs boost.
324hp/8750RPM at rear wheel with the full exhaust system (street legal here)

Wow, great dyno numbers! Bike is putting out the pow-wah! :thumb:

Wow, great dyno numbers! Bike is putting out the pow-wah! :thumb:
Yup, its more than enough for the street to shock some Mercedes, BMW oder Porsche driver here.
But a bigger turbo would be nicer for dragracing.
As you can see the power drops after 9000 RPM because of the "small" Mitsubishi 16t Turbo.
-
Hey Mike, what is the chasis setup on your street bike? I have a similar setup with the MCX cooler and I was just wondering how much you dropped the front end, if you strapped it or not and how long the wheelbase is? 1.51 60' is pretty damn good on a bike you normally can't lower the front end much on.....
I am about 3/8" HIGHER then stock up front, but I can strap it down about an inch before the tire hits the cooler. I am about 62" long. Hell I hope I get in the 1.6 60's....LOL. My bike makes similar power to yours also...I am hoping to go 8.90s with it.
8.60s on your street bike is flying. I am trying to figure out what your MPH is.... :?:
-
Looks like your mph was around 134 in the 1/8 and 165mph in the 1/4....per the online conversion charts.....Pretty damn good for a pump gas street bike.
-
Yes Alan, it is 134 and 165 mph.
The wheelbase is 5" longer than stock.
Ive lowered the bike in the rear approx. 2" and straped it down in the front very hard (only for dragracing)
The intercooler is notched a lot and Ive installed a smaller 1K oilcooler.
With the 120/60 tire it is mostly no problem with the clearance between the tire and the inter/oilcooler.
Normally I would lower the front more but the problem is the ground clearance.
I need at least 2" in the European SSB class and that is not so easy with the stock oil pan.
The best 60ft last weekend was a 1,480s but I did a wheely after the 60ft and so the ET was not so good. :?
-

Hey Mike, so the fork tubes are at the stock height in the triple trees? you just pull the strap down tight when dragging? Thats pretty much the setup I am gonna try. Looks like you have 1" more wheelbase then me. I usually lower the rear 3" but will probably only go 2-2.5" this time since the front is stock height +strap. I also have a notched cooler, 60 series tire, cut fender and modded forks with travel limiters to make em bottom out early. The tire won't hit with the forks at the stock height in the tree and strapped all the way down as long as I am going straight, if I try to turn, the tire will hit the un-notched sides of the cooler.
-
BTW what sprockets you running and how much do you weigh suited up? you have weight up front?
I would LOVE to get my shit going 8.70s but I'm not much of a rider.... I used to average like 1.58 60's stock wheelbase when it was NA....with the turbo, 1.70s...
-
Alan, I had to pull out all the stops for that 8,6
Yes, the tubes are stock high in the triple trees. And when I make a turn and break Ive the same probs like you. The tire hits a little bit the intercooler.
The weights on the fork are 5 pounds each and my weight is 210 suited. I know, it could be less for dragracing :D
I spent the most time with my clutch at the dragrace. Its a single stage lockup clutch.
No high end clutch. Therefore I try to find the perfect "RPM/Spring/Lockup-weight Setup" and that isnt easy.
Every trac is different here. :?
-
This is my bike with the street setup.
Higher in the front and rear and a bit shorter.
We have nice curves out here. :thumb:

Ok, Ive measured it.
The cooler in the plenum has the size 240mm x 100mm x 60mm. (approx. : 9,4" x 3,9" x 2,4" )
It fits perfect under the stock gas tank.

Ok that is a very nice size butt where did you bought it.Do you maybe have a link for me?Because i whas looking for one butt it is hard to find one that fits under the stock tank :(.

One of the few nice paint jobs I've seen. Looks to be almost a metallic or carbon gloss grey :thumb:

Yup, it really looks like carbon gloss grey on the pic above.
But it isnt. Its normal glossy black fresh from the painter.
It must be the reflections from the nice weather here and my cheap camera perhaps

Wil,
I connected the rear hoop at the frame.
There is a stock screw thread at the inner frame where usually a clamp for the - wire to the starter is connected.
I know, its not the perfect position (angle) but I forgot to modify the frame before the powder coating :?

I broke the track record, set in 1967!! by Alf Hagon.
He was the first Englishman who drove over 200mph (206)
I know that are not so big numbers like the guys drove in Maxton or Texas
but Im happy about the 221 with my small MCX turbokit.

Finally my new bike is race-ready. :beechug:
I only need a few decals and some small things must be installed in the next days.
Last weekend I made a few testruns in Hoskovice/CZ.
The track was very slippy and so no good 60 ft times possible.
Nothing broke down :D :D :D
Here are some pics of my nearly complete bike

Are you coming over here this year ?
Full line up of events at Santa Pod for 2011, looking good :thumb:
I`m hoping to see Thomas and the guys this year. 8)
-
Yes HOS. When I wont damage the engine again, we will be at the Pod with the straightliners and at one big event.
I think Thomas and Peter of the Joker Team will be there, too. :tu:
-
Good to see it all coming back together for you, Mike. That head looks to good to strap down, doesn't it?
-
Yes Chris, the new head is nice and looks like new now.
Got it cheap from a friend and installed harder springs.
Only a few hours with the dremel and the head is perfect.
If it wasnt so fuckin cold in my garage, I would be faster with the rebuild
-
I know what paper thin garages are like. Brrrrr. So you ported your own surfaces, yes? :tu:
-
Yes, but only a "light" porting.
I eliminate the grooves and edges and match the 4 combustion chambers to the exactly same size.
That must be enough.
-
Every little bit `elps! :D Did you get that front end down? Or is that for another day?
-
When the track was good I had a lot of problems with the front end last year.
For the new season Ive installed a smaller 16" Fireblade wheel and lowered the front as much as possible.
I hope that helps :D

Sorry guys, no progress at the moment with my project. :td:
I had some issues with the cylinder head.
A few valves are too deep in the valve seat, so I was not able to adjust the clearance with the shims.
Ive broke the head down again. :?

Yes Nem. Ive added that much weight to go sure that the clutch wont slip.
At the race Ill use only 2 washers and the medium springs between the levers (in Lockup mode).
My best 60ft was a 1,36 last year. I must still learn a lot more about using that clutch :?

Yup. New rear shock that wasn't set up, and added a 10psi spring. The bike was pulling massive power wheelies when hitting boost, so it blew out the fork seals from landing too hard. Oh well. :x

- Tiger racing inner Fender
- AMS 1000 boost controller
- Tail wastegate instead of the chinese fuck
and Im totally sure there are one or two more things Ill change

Yup, the Tower Bridge is much nicer than the London Bridge and definately not the same
We were in London after a Dragrace in the UK. After I had some problems with my Garmin
(perhaps I was the problem ) we drove with my big camper van through the city of London
between all the big red busses and on the left side of course. Man, that made me crazy to drive
on the "wrong" side with that much traffic. :duh:
But I like the town and it is worth a visit every time :tu:
Tell me when you are next time in Europe Jason. Perhaps you can do a side trip to Germany :beechug:

So any updates? You bought all those nice parts from me and have yet to see them on the bike. ??

Ive sold my complete GT30 turbo system with everything to my friend and teammember and
installed the "old" GT35 turbo from Trilly and Jody (Nickelracing) with your RCC/Velocity plenum
and a lot of new parts like AMS1000, Microtech fuel management system aso.....
And what can I say...... Ive got Dutch and German Dragbike Champion 2012

The shipping to Europe is very slow at the moment.
The custom service is checking very thoroughly since 09-11 ....
Ive bought a longer swingarm, so I can set the wheelbase at the maximum of 68".
So, I hope to get my wheely problem under control :bike:
Thats the plan 8)

Sounds good on the wheelbase Mikey,
you have to watch out for the rear wheel breaking out, so I out guess you'll be trying out different lengths?

There was pork contamination in Halal meat pies in UK prisons too.
Sorry I'm off thread !

Ive got a +12" tail from a friend in Switzerland last weekend.
Finallly :D Im so happy.
Happy, because it is unbelievable expensive to buy a tail like that in the US from Catalyst.
Not the tail is expensive ..... no ..... the shipping to Europe :bah:

I need some input guys :id: :id: :id:
I want to install an Emtes „pimp pump” at my bike because of a new flat oilpan.
So, I’ve heard that I need an oil sump/catch tank under my turbo + a breather
+ an one way check valve.
Can somebody tell me how that should look like ???? Perhaps a pic ???? :?
Thanks a lot, Mike

You have room to improve up to your 330. Keep getting the seat time and it will come.

Now that's a great set of pistons. Wossner Pistons and rods are what I use. Richard is a good guy to deal with.

Yes, great pistons but a bit strange that I had to buy them in Canada to re-import them to Germany

Ive made some pics of my journey to England this month.
First I was at a landspeedrace at Woodbridge and after that in Cornwall (south/west of England)
Very nice place there to ride a bike but unfortunately the weather wasnt that good :?
I did it with my "never ending street project" of course, not with the dragrace bike. :bike:
Thanks for the help to my English friends :tu:

Mike when are you updating this page with new progress on your build?
Mornin Dylan and greetings to South Africa :hlo:
The last update was 2013. Damn, so long ago......and a real project never ends... .....
I still rode my dragbike with stock frame, stock tripple tree and "short" wheelbase in 2014.
So the new parts (shortneck frame, wedge oilpan, RCC-Intercooler plenum etc...) are ready for 2015 season. :bike:
I'll post some pics :tu:
BTW:
2014 was a great year for me because I finally was in the states (NY and Chicago area) and took the time to visit some friends
they helped me a lot in the past with parts and information like Greg (Boostbysmith), NEM and Eunice and Ken from team Bill Warner.
What a bummer that the time over there was so short .....
Cheers, Mikey :beechug:

Nice pix, best of luck in 2015 :tu:

That copper and silver Busa is very tidy.
Here it is in the original Hayabusa TV advert.
This was the first one.
http://youtu.be/O5gN32oZ5g0
-
Nice vid Colin :bike:
They never sold that copper Busa here in Germany.
So Ive bought the bike and the fairing set in the UK :tu:
Its one of the early 99er Busas with No 00068 on the frame.
Unfortunately there is a big dent on the right side of the tank :(
-
Hi Mikey,
I bought a new 1999 model Busa in early 2000, the black and dark grey model.
I was one of the first very proud owners.
In March 2000 I walked in a huge bke shop (Carnells) in Birmingham with the intention of buying a new helmet and came out
with a new Busa
I suggest keeping an eye on the UK eBay site for a tank in those colours because they do come up.
-
:beechug:
You wanted to buy a new helmet and came out with a new Busa ??? Thats cool :tu: :bike: :tu:

And Yes, the windshield is clear now. Mike, this would look good in your living room.
-
Oh yes Guy. Your bike would be nice in my living room and at an LSR in Elvington :bike: :tu:
It was so close to see your bike in person last year on my way back from Chicago to New York.
Perhaps next time :beechug:
-
Hi mickey, you certainly get around 8)
As an afterthought, I have the original Suzuki Hayabusa sales brochure from 1999 and scanned into .jpeg format. I features the copper and silver model. If you would like I can email a copy to you? Kinda nice to have with the bike?
-
That would be cool Colin :tu:
I've the German Hayabusa sales brochure from 99 here. But that's not the same because they never sold the copper Busa here.
I'll send you my email addy.
Thanks a lot :beechug:
-
Hi Mike, no new updates with the drag bikes?
-
Still the same bro :beechug:
A have to stop Dragracing and Landspeed racing due to illness.
Now Im nearly 100% fit again and hope to race in 2017 again :tu:
Fingers crossed....
-
Holy crap. All my pics has gone :smashfreak:
Ive uploaded them on photobucket.
They've blocked my account and want money if I want to get my pics/piclinks back.
Is that normal ?

Mornin' Mike,
Photobucket assholes are pullin' the same shit with me bro, said I can't do any more "third parting hosting" unless I "upgrade" my account. :uploaded_shooting: :uploaded_shooting: :uploaded_shooting:
