Title: How much motorcycling experience did you have before buying the Busa?
Post by: umairhashmi on February 05, 2009, 10:21:05 PM
This is the only motorcycle i have ever owned. Well i took the MSF in Jan of 2006 on a sat and sun and bought the bike (a brand 2006 black/grey Busa) on monday . Still have it 3 years,15000 miles and zero crashes later. id want a gen2 but money is tight at the moment. What about you guys? What kind of motorcycling experience did you have before buying the busa?

rode bikes since I was twelve. Limited street riding and none for about ten years before I bought my new 2006 busa. The fastest thing I rode was a fj 1200. I dont regret getting it.

Never got a chance to take it to a drag strip but i ride it at least 2-3 times a week. Wish i could commute with it but parking at work isnt safe for a bike. Yeah still have yoshi rs3 + pc3usb and a rumble undertail on it. Next mod might be some frame sliders. Those are LONG overdue lol. Right now im trying to avoid spending more money on it because i think ill probably want a gen2 busa within the next year or two if i can afford one.

Started riding in 1959 or 60 on a Vespa scooter, 24 motorcycles later I bought the Busa in 06, has going on 16000 on it now, almost all with turbo, 4 major crashes, none with busa, never any more damage to me except for road rash, bikes were wasted

The hayabusa was the first bike i bought and when i bought it my experience was a big zero with motorcycles.  The busa is the only bike i would ever own.  Been through stock busa's to bolt on busa's to nitrous busa's and have been in the turbo realm for a few years now and loving it.

Had an 04' bought an 08' , my brother had a 99' , I said ride this, he goes "godda have one" , sold it to him to him for cost price bought a Gold 09' , love it , its a keeper !

I started on a Mini bike I built out of wood scraps from my Grandfathers wood shop and used the gas engine on the washing machine. I was about 9-10 at the time. Since then I have always had a bike. Motorcycle enthusiast
pretty much all my driving years. 10 years on and off as a motorcycle messenger doing 70-80K miles a year.

Glad to say never down on the street. There have been many moments I wondered why I didnt go down but have been very lucky so far.

I rode a Harley Daividson for 10 years before I bought my first BUSA.  So basically you could say I had ZERO Motorcycle Riding Experience........LOL

But in all honesty, I was the first sport bike I ever rode, when I took it off the lot.......  Only problem I had was tasking a right out of the dealer lot, the back tire spun because it was brand new.

Just take it easy and respect the beast.......

Same here. Took MSF, then bought the busa. I HAVE had a few wrecks, but that was a combination of being stressed-out, tired and too much speed.

I started riding when I was 9 years old, homemade minibike my uncle put together for us kids. I'm now 44 years old and this is my 2nd Busa. So, I've had many motorcycles over the years prior to arriving at the best. And if it ain't broken, why fix it or trade it in? The Busa has always done what I've asked of it and more. Aside from maybe a nice large Goldwing that's fully loaded for long trips, I'll never walk away from this product!

You guys will love this. A few of my friends had bikes. I say I want a Busa. Most say no the people who know me say yes. I was 22 bought from the dealer. Never owned or even ridden a bike. Wanted it so bad I drove it home in the rain. Told my dad it was a touring 600 after I took off the gsx1300r stickers. Latter he found out by the owners manual. 2 weeks after buying it had nightmares about dying. 3 months later turbocharged it and had 347 horse. Still own it many years later and 3 other bikes have came and gone. Still alive today. Can't get enough.

I can't believe all you guys who got a 'Busa as a first or second bike...

My first ride was a long time ago on a Honda 65 that we rode in the fields behind my friend's house.  I was 25 when I got my first street bike (1978) and have probably ridden 250K miles on a variety of machinery before I got my '03 'Busa.

I've ridden trials, motocross, enduros and have ice raced; any kind of riding makes you a better rider!  I still recommend a dual-purpose as a first bike so you can hit the trails, slide around a bit and learn what it feels like to be on the edge a bit.   :hys:

Post by: 1Quikshifter on March 28, 2009, 09:44:22 AM
Do agree Frank re: dual purpose. I wonderer if you would have jumped on a busa earlier, had they been available. It would be pretty hard for new riders to sit back & wait till the experience kicks in, when your busting for a blast on one !

Post by: fubar569 on March 28, 2009, 12:15:43 PM
I absolutely love my busa...but it's only great when the weather's nice...otherwise it sits or gets ridden like a snail and it doesn't like that at all...

in retrospect, i do not regret the busa as a first purchase...but i wish i had also bought a dualsport or dirtbike in addition to the busa so i'd be able to ride year round and in less than perfect weather...there's alot of good riding and parties i can't quite get to because i lack ground clearance, suspension, and tires...

It's a tough call - my 'Busa replaced an '86 Ninja 1000 which was pretty stout for its time but nothing compared to the new stuff.  I also ride old 2-strokes.  The truth is that my H2 (750 cc 2-stroke triple with mild mods) can provide as much excitement as the 'Busa - it all just happens at lower speeds.  Go through the gears on the H2 and you're still hanging on (power wheelies in 3rd gear) but it's all tapped out just when the 'Busa is starting to wake up.  I've had dual sports that have let me hit the trails on the way home from work and sometimes that's just what I needed to get my head in a better place.  I guess what I'm saying is that for me, sometimes there's more to riding than outright power and speed.

Post by: 1Quikshifter on March 28, 2009, 09:36:04 PM

The 750 triple were a ball buster when they were released, there's no questioning that !
There was a time when to me, speed & power was everything, there is heaps of other ways to get kicks. I have a Honda XR 650 R single cylinder as you know, love taking that out every now & again, the torque is heaps of fun, bit heavy in the bush but bloody good fun.

Spent 5,000.00 building motor, chassis and clutch setup. best time out .067 protree lite 12.00ET.at the 1/4, I was pissed, mysteriously Harley fell off trailer in transport, insurance paid me 9000.00 bought a 2004 Hayabusa, ran 11.00 right of trailer had not ridden a sportbike in over 25 yreas. I was hooked I am now knocking on door of 9.00secs and have nitrous ready to rock as soon as i get my  ass time under the Busa. A true defection story from Harley to Suzuki.LOL :hys: :thumb:

You may have misunderstood me there is no smack intended, I ride a Harley also, along with the Busa had to have something fast since getting out of the drag car, and I am pretty sure the Busa will never see a dragstrip, just street riding and maybe short trips, what I meant was I wish I had did things differant with the Dragster instead of pissing away a ton of money with the combination I had, the only satisfaction I really got out of it was beating up on the Hemi's with a small block chevy, in retrospect I should have had a hemi long ago would have ben cheaper, I geuss that was the old school in me, and I have 10+ years on you, also I'm in TN so a grudge would be tough to do, but if you were here we could go hit the Dragon :thumb:

My first "real" bike (one without a pull start. lol) was a TM125 Suzuki dirt bike. Man, I loved that bike. Many bikes came and went over the years, but my most memorable were a Yamaha RD250, Suzuki GS450L, Honda V30 Magna, Kawasaki ZX-11 (2nd favorite bike ever). I got the 2007 'Busa last year used with only 93 miles on it. It's a spectacular bike and easily my favorite.

30 years of trail riding and no street before the Busa.  I thought that riding hills that one could not even stand on would make me far more capable then just street riders.  I WAS WRONG.

I have managed to keep my head right while riding and have never gone down, watched it fall of the kick stand once :( but never wrecked in near 3 years on the street.

First mini bike in 1971...to a trail Honda 90 in 1977, to a Honda Nighthawk 450 in 82, Gs750EF in 84, Shadow 1100 in 85.
A couple Cr125 and a CR250-1987-1991
On and off friends bike now and then up to 2005 then bought the Busa
So i guess it would equal to date 34 years before buying the Busa... Still surprizes me whenever i ride it ..although rarely

I started riding dirt bikes when I was six, my first street bike was a 50cc Honda!  I have had all types of bikes from cruisers to tourers.  I bought the Busa because I love the Gen II looks!  The bike is crazy fast and a wheelie monster!  I like the fact that I can ride it for a long time and I am not in pain!  But, I think that if I didn't have throttle control, the Busa would kill me!

Was riding a 1984 Honda Sabre 1100 for 11 years before buying an 05 Busa.  All I could think was "Wow, technology has come a long way."

At 16 I bought a 98 CR250 to learn the basics on...
at 18 I bought my first bike - Yamaha R6
At 20 I upgraded to a GSXR 750 and got into stunting at 20-21
Got pretty good, picked up a 900RR
Sold that Picked up another GSXR750 at 22
Sold it and bought an F4i
Then a 636
Then got out of stuntriding and built a Mutant Buell chopper
Then got the sportbike bug but since most of my friends ride harleys now I bought a TL1000R
At 26 a couple weeks ago I bought my Busa!

So approx 10 years of straight motorcycle riding, and even still, the first time I cracked it open and ran it through the top of 3rd I had an adrenaline rush and shakey legs haha.

I had about 25 years on a variety of bikes. This bike has a steep learning curve, so I would suggest to anyone with a new busa to take it slow and easy learning. If you have even a small spill, you are talking big $ in plastic.

Started riding dirt bikes when I was four.  I'm 32 now.  I've almost always had something to ride, plus friends bikes, plus friends of friends and the occasional "Hey can you ride this and tell me _______ ?.  Right now, I've got the 08 Busa, 73 CB 350 twin, 77 KZ 650, 76 CB 550 K and still have my motocross bike.  Everything I've ever owned or ridden has been nothing like the one before.  I don't really ride my old bikes much, but the 08 is probably the most fun I've had in a while.  I work offshore, so when I'm home and the weather is at least reasonable, I don't get in or on much of anything else.

The only thing that really bothers me is this... I've been riding for 28 years, 18 of that on the street, I wave at every bike I see.  Old "real" bikers always acknowledge me.  Sport bikes, they always acknowledge me.  People in cars chase me down to wave or say "nice bike".  BUT, these jackasses who probably aren't even mechanically inclined enough to change their own oil... you know, the guys that buy a bike and some leather and are all of a sudden "HARDCORE" bikers... they seem to think that they're better than me.

It's laughable at best, but at bike nights or something, they act like their shit doesn't stink because they bought a name.

Anyone else have this problem?  I'm always in it for the ride... no matter which bike I'm on, sooner or later, it's just about the ride.

Once upon a time, 12 years ago, I hired a 125 Kawasaki KMX in Greece for a week and loved it. Came home, did test and bought a brand new Fireblade. Since then it's all been V-twins: Ducati 916, Suzuki TL1000S, Aprilia RSV-R and a Ducati 996SPS that I bought in December 2008. And now the Busa. And I lived happily ever after. The End.

I've been riding since I was really young. but I didn't get to buy a street bike until I went to college. Got a Honda 500-4, it was great, I toured most of the east coast with it I lived in Chattanooga then and drove down to Miami and the Keys, then up to Maine and then up to Michigan and up to see my family in Salem, Virginia all the time. Then I got a Honda 750-4 and then a KZ900, then a few years later a KZ1000. after I sold the KZ1000, it wasn't' until 2002 that I bought a Suzuki Volusia 800, but I found I didn't care for a cruiser and bought a 2003 Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird - Now that is a great bike, I wish Honda would come up with a new model or would come up with something to match it. On 08/22/09 I bought a 2009 Silver GSX1300R Hayabusa and am loving it. So here I am now.

I bought my Busa in 2001. 21 yrs on the street prior........One GS 750 (16 valve), Numerous GS 1100/1150s - still own a Black/Red Pro Street 1150 ( 1428, 67.5", inverted forks, Cosman wheels, etc.,etc..) Too many air/oil cooled GSX-Rs to count.....still have an 86' 1100 R w/Carrillo's, lock-up, Nitrous, 62", etc., and a 86' 750/1127 R  for track days (road course). Owned a couple of 96' 750 SRADs (amazing bikes when they were released), a 1200 Bandit that I later turbo'd, a 97' TL 1000 S that I loved - especially on a road course! My Busa is a Black/Gray 99' that now has 53,500 miles on it. I've only made approx. 30 passes at the drag strip on it in all these years, with my best being a 9.59 at 146.27 mph foot shifting. Best et & mph on same pass......very unusual. I use this bike for commuting more than anything else. I also presently own a 05' GSX-R 1000, and a 04' GSX-R 750 track bike (road course).

I never even sat on a motorcyle until I got a Busa.  Back in 05 or so my friends were all picking up 600, 750's etc.  I didn't know squat about cycles and seeing how I always have to have the best of everything I asked them what is the best motorcycle out there they said Hayabusa and said I would be nuts to buy one.  Well, on my second one and about to go Turbo.

I do remember reading the post on the org about the busa being a first bike, I got dissapointed when I read it but got it anyway since I had a hefty background in musclecars so I knew how to respect the speed.  Haven't looked back!

I think you are a lucky guy. Heck I know an experienced harley rider, big guy about 275 or so all muscle, tons of riding experience mostly harley, got on a Busa and wiped it out in about 20 feet!

It must be your age and your smarts that saved you.

I bought my Gen II Orange Busa as a first bike brand new in April of 2008.  It's a lot of bike, but I bought it mainly due to my size...it was a perfect fit  I'm 6'2" 290.  It's by no means the best starter bike, but it could work for someone with extreme self control and a level head.  For the young or aggressive starter, I would definitely go with a smaller bike.

I had no experience with motorcycles when I bought my bike. I grew up dragracing cars with my dad but I always loved motorcycles so last feb I bought one and started drag racing it. I haven't looked back since with over 150 passes and coming on 10000 rode miles I love it.

I started with a Motobecane moped back in '82 then started a "Power Mechanics" course in that same year that I completed in 1984.  I Borrowed my brother's Kawasaki 440 Gpz and road that around Cincinnati for a few years before I was licensed in 2003.  That same year I bought My first bike, a Suzuki Katana 750 I later made into a 7/12. Since '84 I've test ridden 250s all the way up to ZX-14s to include ATVs, since I fix bikes as a side job.  I've test ridden Busa's before but I bought my first Busa I'm rebuilding in 2006 for $1500, a salvage rebuild.  I haven't ridden this one yet but When I'm done it will be the most heavily modified, largest cc bike I've ever built/ridden.  I can't wait!! :D

Only about 6 Yrs of riding........My first bike was a 97' CBR F-4, I'm in the military and was stationed in Greece during Hurricane Katrina and well you might be able to figure out what happened to it(but it was my beginners bike anyways!).  My 2nd bike was an 05' Suzuki SV1000, I sold it to my brother to buy a Hayabusa and he killed himself on it on his 21st Birthday (RIP Justin).
Now I have my Busa and I wouldn't think twice about riding another bike, it's not just the power I love the way the bike looks and feels!  It's just not the same to me on another bike!  I've always wanted a Busa and wanted it as my first bike but didn't have the money.

i had 2 months riding experience before i bought my busa. 2 months total, i googled how to operate my first bike... wrist control is key with any bike as is taking time to get used to cornering... any sportbike will get you into trouble in a heartbeat 600, 1000, or busa... or even a cruiser.

I had 4 seasons on a 1992 kawa 600 ninja went down due to a cracked weld on the handlebar. Factory welds. GREAT THINKIN on there part. got road rash from it and little damage to bike. After got it home looked at the other bar weld to find it was cracked as well on the weld. Road that bike real hard. Did all my learning on it. got rid of it and took 4 yrs off from riding any bikes. This last feb got back in to riding. picked up a 05 busa. And DAMN should have got one a long time ago. My old bike topped out at 160.  This one still getting to top out  but have had it up to 180 so far. waiting for the right weather and empty road to go all out. I ride the hell out of it every day there is no rain.  Some time this summer will go to track and see what it does there. very little mods done to it yet. Looking to het head work done and some time add turbo.   It is one great riding bike. Were I live I do have the fastest bike.  Every one around here rides the harleys But not one of them will put my bike down. They allll know I will kick the crap out of all of them.  Thinking will do a gen 2 next.   I want a fleet of these bikes I love it so much.

I bought a Yamaha Seca II 19 years ago, rode that until I got T-boned in an intersection in Detroit (totaled the bike and me), then I got a used TDM 850 in 2000 when I was stationed in VA.

I sold the TDM when I was transferred to Shanghai, China.  Bought an electric scooter in Shanghai (motorcycles are banned in Shanghai- unless you have one that is grandfathered in before the law was enacted), rode the scooter in Chinese traffic (very scary) for 3 years, then was transferred to Beirut, Lebanon where I rode nothing for two years.

I finally bought my Busa in '08 when I was stationed in Seattle, and have been loving it ever since! :D

Now I'm stationed in LA for the next two years, then my wife and I will be transferred to our next overseas posting.  I plan on bringing my bike with me unless we get stationed in some country where they are banned or we are stationed in some shithole.

Sold that to get a 1990 zx10 after a friend smoked me on his new zx10 :( . Sold that to get a 1991 zx11 after different friend sold my old hurricane to buy a zx11 and proceded to hand me my butt on it after picking it up. Was bone stock against my geared and piped zx10. I dont like getting beat :( Then sold the zx11 to same friend few yrs later and had bought another 1991 zx11 in 97. Had that for 2 yrs and got rid of it and went bikeless for couple years till I decided to give suzuki a chance and bought a 2001 Hayabusa. So 17yrs of big bikes before the Busa. At this point I just dont see anything replacing this bike.  :thumb:

I see all these posts and I have had 3 bikes so far, first was a 92 suzuki katana, then when i felt I wanted more power I went to a 92 honda cbr 600f2 was modded really nicely carbs were all done right and then as of this year I just upgraded a few months ago to a gsxr1000 and that was wonderful(01 model) and now that it spun a rod bearing I kinda want to upgrade to a busa as I have almost 4 years riding experience now I see the light and if I can talk the wife into letting me just part the 01 1000 out to help cover the cost of going to a busa I believe I might do it.

2 Days! :o)  Read on for the history.

In 1988 rode a honda dirtbike for a day then in 1989 I rode a friend's gsxr 750 for a day(after telling him I had ridden dirtbikes *not entirely a lie*)

Fast forward to 2000 -- I was looking to get a cruiser... a "hardly", when a friend suggested I look at Jap Cruisers.  That is when I saw her!!  A 2000 Blue/Silver beauty!  I threw my leg over it and knew I would have her.

I told my friend and he laughed his ass off... "yeah whatever... you want a 1300 sportbike for your first?  Sure thing, squid!"

I squared my finances away and 6 mos later I was busa hunting... but apparently the bike was popular (who knew) and more importantly, there was a massive fire in the New Orleans wharehouse.  This caused a shortage.

I was really bummed.  I could only find one bike in Marietta GA, and they wanted $12,000 because they knew it was the last in the SE.

So I expanded my search and called a dealer in Anderson, IN.  I asked if he had any and he told me he had 6 blue and 6 crimson!!!!! Holy crap!  This was in August and someone in the Chicago Wharehouse had found a bunch of busas and was begging dealers to take them.  He sold me one for 9K OTD.  And the friend that laughed at me... he bought one too.

We picked them up on a Saturday at 4 pm... it had rained for 3 hours and then cleared up right as we got to the dealership.  I had not ridden since 1989.  I was just starting out... on wet roads... on a busa.

My buddy hopped on his and took off... I stalled in the parking lot.  Then I got going.  We rode to Bloomington to spend the night with a friend.  Then 600 miles back to Birmingham AL.

We varied the ride, from Interstate to backroads.  When we got home, my face hurt more than my ass!  (I was grinning ear to ear the whole trip)  The next week I took MSF.  My instructor was shocked I had just started riding because I rode really well.  We went for a ride during lunch.  He rode his R1 and took a couple of us on backroads.  I was hooked on twisties.

I rode that busa for 2 years(30K miles)... I was leaned over in a tight turn running up blood mtn. and drug the left can (HMF Oval - so I was way way over.)  Broke tail loose and spun into ditch.  RIP Busa.

So I bought my buddy's busa with the ins. money.  Long live the 2K busa!!! :o)  I have her today (17K miles)  and a 2005 GSXR1K

I began riding in 1968 on a new BSA Hornet 650..........then went to a  1970 Triumph Bonneyville, then a 1973 Harley Superglide, then a 1974 Norton 850,  then a 1979 Harley Low Rider, then a  custom built (in my basement) stroked Harley which eventually got titled as a '95, then a 1997 Kawasaki GPZ 1100, then a 1998 Kawasakii ZX9R, then my first Busa.   A 2001 model.   Now I have a 2009 Gen II.    I can say, without equivocation, that the new Busa is the finest piece of machinery I have ever had the honor to throw a leg over.   :tu:

You read me like a book, pal.  In 1978, I actually rode that motorcycle from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco.   I put a new tire on it before we left..........(my friend David went with me on his shovel/pan).   My tire was bald when we hit the West Coast.  It took us 6 days.  His Harley used a quart of oil a day.............the Norton used 3/4 of a quart the entire trip.  That Norton was a fine bike for its' time.  I ran Wolfs Head straight 50 weight.   He ran straight 70 weight in the Harley.  Nobody even thought about multi-weight stuff for bikes back then.........at least no-one in our circle.  :thumb:

I would love to be able to ride across country again, only this time with my son................he will be 21 in July.

The spirit is willing, but this body sez it would be a massive challenge to undertake such a trip.

Dylan, (my son), is 6'2" and weighs about 200.  He is in extremely good physical shape...........he rides "The Dragon" on a regular basis and still carries a 2.8 GPA at UTC in Chattanooga.  He is scheduled to graduate next year...............a cross-country ride for the two of us would be the zenith of what he and I could do together.   Some day, Lord willing, some day.   :bike:

Been around bikes my whole life. My pops has a building full of bikes now. A BSA,  2 Triumphs, a few Harleys...1976 Sportster, A newer Sportster, a chopper and a Roadking. Busa was my 1st Streetbike.. motor was blown by 5,000 miles :hys:  but I had been riding Pops bikes since highschool.

My Pops told me a story about an old biker that came to a field meet years ago. He had a Norton 750 that was done up.. high comp, cams etc... young fellas started laughing so he ran all the sportbikes one at a time for $100 each... he went down undefeated. It was heavy as Hell so it stayed down... that oldman was riding the dog shit out that thing.

Stock they were rated at 60 or 61 hp and would turn a 12 second quarter.   Modified - maybe 85 RWHP?  I dunno.  What I do know is that when properly tuned up, my 850 would do and indicated 115-118 on the speedo.  It was a nice bike.

It was ZX9's,CBR's and 750's he was running... I'm pretty sure it was a Norton, I don't think it was a BSA. I'll call pops right quick and ask.

This was before Busa's took over.

Chris,
I know you are gonna think I have lost what little is left of my functioning brain cells, but ever since I changed the Suzuki oil out and put the Amsoil in my bike, the bike idles at least 100 RPMs higher.  It is not noisy/no engine sounds and actually feels a tad more responsive in the midrange.  160 today was virtually effortless.  Engine braking is nothing less than outstanding. It truly does "shift like butter" both up and down.  If is had boobs and a lower section of female anatomy, I would deevorce Lynda and marry this stupid motorcycle.  :hys: :hys: :hys: :hys: :hys:
Seriously, it is quicker.

Started riding at 12, turn 52 next month so 40 years.  Here is my list. just remember I'm getting old so I may have left one out.
Honda Mini Trail 70
Honda CB 100
Honda XL 175
Honda 750 SS
Honda 900C
Honda 750C
Suzuki Bandit 600
Yamaha FZ1
Suzuki M109
2010 Busa

I traded in the 109. Riding out of the parking lot I just felt like I was going to loop the Busa. Great bike but don't on accident  hit the throttle. That will scare the snot out of you.
I remember a magazine tester's quote when the bike was originally released  "Taking the entrance ramp to the freeway, I cracked open the throttle....70, 80, 90 miles an hour. I did what any sane motorcyclist would do, I changed to second". Wanted one ever since.

My first bike was a dirt bike when I was 12. Later, around 28 I bought a Ninja 500, then I owned 4 or five Harleys, bought a 2009 Busa, went back to Harleys, and then this year at age 44 went back to a 2011 Busa. I love it! Try to ride everyday. I used to drag race cars and now Im thinkin of drag racing my Busa. I am at the point now where I think I need more power out of it. Getting ready to invest in a Turbo or Nitrous. I am a Nitrous Nut, always have been...LOL

Let me speak from a newbie stand point and give my 2 cents I havent had a bike in 8 yrs and my biggest bike then was a 1995 kawasaki ZX6r I rode it like i had a death wish, fast forward 8 yrs later I by an 05 Hayabusa, now I am 40 yrs old and have a family that I want to see everyday but also have a very bad need for speed but in the 3 weeks ive owned my busa I have learned one very very very huge lesson...........RESPECT in case you missed that part let me say it again RESPECT, I have read alot threads about what experience is needed but if your one of the fortunate ones as i was you learn real quick that the busa demands a different level of respect, however coming from an 8 year hiatus and coming from a ZX6R, the biggest obstacle is getting use to the clutch. Beyond that the respect thing is always in my head.

I agree with my buddy Dave. Although, watch one thing even though you may have "respect" down all day long,, complacency will get the best of any of the most respectful rider. Just when you think your are "so good" you just seem to be getting better and better,, then you relax just a bit,,, and because of that,,, then BOOM! You are thrown into a different reality!  :?

The details of my riding are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving Suzuki dealership owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old umbrella girl named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the Hayabusa. Sometimes he would accuse corner workers of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers at Willow Springs, track days. In the spring we'd clean our helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with two-stroke reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of forty I received my expert road racing license. At the age of forty-four, I watched a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shave a fur-covered Gixxer. There really is nothing like a shorn motorcycle... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Okay, in all seriousness, I purchased the Hayabusa as my first motorcycle on a dare.  My youngest brother and I were cruising through a motorcycle dealership, and we paused to look at a brand new blue 2000 model year Hayabusa.  My brother dared me to buy it, as it was the fastest motorcycle money could buy, so I did.

I immediately got my learner's permit, made some new friends, and began riding with them.  Within a few months, I had learned wheelies- first gear, then shifting into second, then second gear wheelies, second gear stand-ups, third gear stand-ups, and two-up wheelies.  I learned stoppies at about the same time.

My wife and I rode the Hayabusa on our honeymoon, tent-camping on Fox Hill at Laguna Seca for the WSB/AMA double-header.  We did about 2000 miles two-up in one weekend.  We crashed one of the VIP parties when someone mistook my petite young wife as an umbrella girl, and assumed that I was her security.  My wife met Jake Holden's sister, who invited us back the next year, for the two of them to be Jake's umbrella girls.

Racing looked like fun, so I participated in "A Taste Of Racing" at our local road race facility.  I enjoyed it enough that I subsequently signed up for the novice road racing school.  I couldn't afford to buy another motorcycle, so I just used my Hayabusa.  Upon seeing a Hayabusa show up for novice class, there were a number of derogatory comments made about the bike and it's alleged inability to brake or turn.  Upon seeing my first green flag, I wheelied through the entire field, and made it to the first turn by about a zip-code.  I watched video of it later, and every time I came down the front straight, it looked like someone had fired a Tomahawk cruise missile alongside the other race bikes.  Gixxer 1000s could not stay in my draft.  I led the first two laps, and began catching back-markers on my third lap.  The closing speeds were so stupendous, that they decided to kick me out of novice by giving me my expert road racing license after my first weekend, for safety reasons (they ran Open Supersport with 600 Supersport, in two waves, and I was catching 140 mph 600s at 190 mph, just as I was shifting into high gear.  I represented the Hayabusa community well, and was awarded the Top Novice award at the end of the year.

the following year, I began serving a race official, and was invited to be an instructor for the novice road racing school and for the Taste Of Mowing.

My wife, who had by then done a couple of track days, then took her novice road racing class on her hot pink pearl Halfabusa Supersport race bike.

Took MSF class in September 2000. Picked up brand new 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa in May, 2001 (Lay-away program). Hadn't ridden all winter. Never had a problem. Excellent bike for all levels as long as you respect it.

As far as sport bikes/sport touring: NONE.  The Busa was my first sport bike.  I wanted to drag race and get something I wouldn't outgrow. I never did.

Prior to that I had had three Harleys:  a 2000 Sportster 883 Hugger, a 2001 Heritage Softail, and a 1995 Ultra Classic.

Guess  I went backwards.  I don't have any of the HDs anymore, but still love my Busa.

Been riding big road bikes since I got a GPZ900 Kawa back in '95. Went to GSXR1100's and never looked back. Converted my 1100 to a '7/11' ( slabside) and then also a GSXR750J with my 1100 engine shoehorned in to her.  Just bought a '99 Busa last week and I am waiting for delivery of it next week...CAN NOT WAIT!!!!   I currently ride a KTM 990 Adventure, and prior to that a KTM 950SM, before that a GSXR1000K6. I was hanging out for another big multi road bike so splashed out on the Busa spontaneously as I was trawling thru the big bikes on 'Trademe.co.nz',  NZ's answer to Ebay. I am mid 50's now and needed a new riding challenge to keep me energized lol!  That's my story... theres more but that will keep for later!
