Title: Oil problem
Post by: Dax Man on April 14, 2020, 03:25:00 AM
Hello folks
I have a busa turbo fitted in my kit car and was wondering if I could possibly find some info from the more advanced motor bike brains!
The problem I have is there is no leak on the engine or turbo but after a hard run out (6-7 hours) it uses about a quart pint of oil !!
I also have been told that I leave black smoke from time to time when accelerating hard.
Any thoughts would be grateful, Cheers :tu:

If it's the turbo than it could be sub par oil drain, too much oil (probably a restrictor could hep), or air filter being too restrictive. Or the turbo is worn out and seals are gone.

If it's the engine it could valve seals (unlikely), worn out rings / cyls. Or it could be shitty oil.

Cheers for that!

my thoughts now that I have looked into it, the oil drain from the bottom is very low and therefore the oil in the pan is restricting it from flowing from the turbo.
The thing is if I don't drive like a looney there is no problem

Is the oil usage issue new? If not, maybe it needs a scavenging pump.

No, its always been a problem, I am wondering if its because the oil cant pass through the drain hose freely as it is backing up against the oil in the sump. It has a billet alloy flat sump you see.

Thats the usual case with a motorcycle , turbo position is not flexable enough to have the drain gravity to above the oil , it works in most cases, those that dont use a scavenge pump
what setup is on the kit car ?

Black smoke is fuel , maybe you need to check the tuneup first, you could be washing the bores and loosing some oil that way
