I read there are a few members that have cam chains that got noisey or failed with what I consider low miles on there bikes. Am I wrong to expect 100K+ trouble free miles on the cam chain? I presently have 60K miles on my bike and the motor is just as quiet as new. Any ideas on why it would fail prematurely? Bad oil? excessive abuse?    ????????

Machines are machines. They are inherently prone to failure by nature of their constant movement. When each machine is built separately by hand certain things can and do fail unwillingly before what could be considered normal scheduled wear and tear.

Yes, there are many, if not few, that had problems with their CCT in the beginning. But keep in mind that the tensioners that started with the Hayabusa went through a discovery phase up to today's perfected model. To date, there have been a total of four re-designs of the 'Cam Chain Tensioner' used in the Busa. The first wasn't that well known and consequently, the second was thought of as the first and the overall "Suzuki Service Bulletin' re-call's were done to be the actual third . GenII Busa's now have the fourth newly revised model.

If your Hayabusa is running smoothly and experiencing little to no chatter, chances are that your bike either had a "re-call" upgrade performed to it, or it is merely wearing a newer issue design.

I'm just having the CCT, chain etc... on my 2000 changed now. I bought it with about 27,000km on it with the CTT recall already done. It now has 140,000km, but has been rattling away for quite some time.

I ride daily in rain and snow as well as shine, but have rarely taken it above 5000 revs, so it's not really been abused.

Here's mine in 2 years and 3 months.
:beechug:
By the way, my goal is to put 100,000 miles on her in 3 years. Hopefully, I can reach it by the end of this year.

Nothing major. Just normal scheduled service and the only two things I remember were cush drive and fork seals.

Why are you doing the recall again if it was already done, Blue?

The mechanics say the tensioners wear out and should be replaced. I wanted them to change the chain and guides while they were a it, but they were only interested in changing the CCT assembly.

On fork seals:
I've wondered about my front forks. They could certainly do with a look. I've had a loud noise at the front of the bike for years when going over bumps and wondered what the cause was - now seems linked to the forks as I can get it make the noise rolling it up and down a small step. The noise seems to be the disc, because of the forks poor performance. Forks and disc look okay, though. How far do these things go on commuter abuse, before they need a re-vamp?

The funny thing with the forks is that the innards are really crap straight from the start. One could go the distance with them but they truly deserve to be re-valved and re-sprung from day one to honestly know the way they can perform this side of the way they are from factory.

Following simply steps with basic tools outlined by SH member Coryonbusa ( How to internally lower your forks. Updated with better pics. 6/20/09 ) you can pretty much do your own R&R to bring everything to a new light or you can contract a trusted professional to do the work if the task is outside of your skill levels as a mechanic.

Don't worry, sometimes, it's more comforting to pay and let someone else do the dirty work just to keep your time focused on what you do best if turning wrenches isn't your bag.

One option I recommend is  www.GPSuspension.com if nothing more than good heads to pass questions by. They also come highly recommended within the motorcycle industry. Check the testimonials.

I really should look at these things myself more often instead of asking franchised workshops who just do not give a sh*t.
Turns out the noise was from my left brake disc which was wobbling from side to side.

Thanks for the fork write up - I'll make sure it's upgraded instead of done to OEM specs when it comes to it.

Right, Blue,,, doing the fork upgrade is as majestic as mounting lighter wheels - a luxury, sure, but essential!

12000 in 6months

I did 10,000 miles on my K71k in about 4 months. I vowed not to ride my 08 as much.

Currently summer here, so I plan to slowly revamp the busa from front to back before replacing the cam chain in the winter. On roughly 92,000 miles.

Replaced front disc - although performing okay, left hand one was damaged causing a lot of noise while riding .
Forks look and perform okay will at least change oil (possibly upgrade) in winter.
Changed plugs - old ones looked good to the naked eye after about 12,000 miles.
Cleaned re-olied BMC air filter - damaged, need new one in winter.
Valves checked and throttle bodies already balanced by the shop.

Changed clutch after all of those 92,000 miles - look okay to the naked eye, but can't be as I can feel them deteriorating on a ride. Noticed that when I upgraded it from 2000 to 2002 spec, (about 18,000 miles ago) I changed the wrong end so the new plate and 2 springs where furthest away from the engine instead of first up. Hopefully, will notice a better ride.

Next up, inspect rear shock, rear caliper and change pads. That should be enough until winter, then 1 more summer before considering a rebuild or replacement engine at about 136,000 miles. Any other suggestions?

13,000 on my '08. Would be more but these nebraska winters keep the streets covered in snow and gravel.
