lockup clutches

Anyone care to go into explaining the fine art of how  these lockup clutches work. Whats the minimum HP needed to effectivley make good use of one etc? ..........I just dont know and would like too. :?: :?:

any HP I used one on an old 1100 Its just like a regular clutch with the addition of centrifical weights with arms that push on the pressure plate as rpm's go up

Thanks, does seem to be that simple after looking at them and your simple explaination of the operation. I guess everyones volley about them is in the tunining and the time it takes. If RPM windows and numbers is what we work with, it seems the process should be fairly simple with some fine tuning needed at the right moments. Hays convertable looks to be the bomb but at 1400.00 without cover or spacer WOW! Gonna have to dig deep.

I have a mtc multistage that I can't get dialed in.  I think its top secret or something. I'm about to sell it all and go back to a hand clutch. :cussing:

I want to set it up to leave at 5500 or 6000.  I have to leave at 4000 and ride it out a bit.  I have 1.99 stack height.  1.19 air gap. 9 and 11's in the back. I have 2 weights (1 on ea side) on the arms with the 11's. I have 4 mtc soft springs and 2 heavy's in the front. The bike does what it wants if I leave above 4000, spins or wheelies.

How much power, what weight and what gearing. Sounds like the springs are too stiff. Need to let it drive through the clutch more. Miay have too deep gearing, not loading the clutch enough.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

reduce the weight of the static springs. pull the lock up off and the 6 springs still in your bike are the problem. if you have all 6 as heavy pull 2 and replace them with stock busa clutch springs some people run 3 heavy 3 soft. your lock up will do nothing for the first 10/12 ft all controlled by static. by 15 ft lock up is controlling it

I will give it a try. I have the MTC springs in it now. I have 4 soft and 2 heavy.  I'm going to the track this weekend.  If I can't get it I'm going back to a hand clutch. If it doesn't work then I will sell it.

we have run some very soft static pressures in some bikes do you feel it sliping at all try all 6 soft

Thanks for the help guys.  I did a 1.47 60' this weekend.  It was a combo of things.  It takes some getting used to but I think I have it now.  I need a little more tuning and that should be it.  A friend of mine told me to get a clutch cushion and he set the stack hieght up.  He put 2 steels back to back.  I will let you guys know how it goes the next time I go to the track.  Thanks for your help guys....... :thumb:
