First time on the track in a year and a half....
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:59:46 PM »
Went to Bristol and made some passes for the first time since October 07 and that was on my 03 turbo bike. Saturday was the first time that i have made a pass on my 08 since buying the bike in July last year! I am very rusty to say the least....It is crazy how rusty you get after not being on a bike in awhile. It has taken me since Jan to get down from 338 to 280 now to fit into my leathers so i could make some passes. The best of my four passes was a 9.89 @ 139.67...the bike does have a Brock exhaust and map, clutch mod, cushion, pump gas,shifter,6 over,BMC filter, and geared up 3 in the rear. My 60' really sucked bad!!! They ranged anywhere from 1.661-1.647. The 1/8 mile et's were 6.42-6.43 @ 114. It really sucks to go this slow after racing a turbo bike and running 8.90's but it is all about getting back to the track and having fun!!!! I can not wait to get back at it and try to improve on all of this. I think that i am going to go ahead and put the -1 sprocket on the front and see if that helps my crappy 60 foots.....

You wanna hear horrible 60's I went to Byron this weekend for the first time. I've never ran 1/4's on a track before, my best 60' was a 1.97 and with that I ran my best 1/4 mile at 10.40 136 mph and that was the last run of the night! My worst 60' was a 2.50!!! I recently had major engine work done to my 04' Gixxer 1000. I was hoping to do a lot better, but I definitly need to get more practice in. Any advice on launching techniques, I'm working on the whole feathering the clutch out. I need to find the sweet spot on my tach for my launch...I'm hooked on track racing though its 1000x's safer than the street racing I'm used to....I'll be at the Grove on Thursday practicing....I'm hoping I can get into the 9's by the end of the day.

1000's are a whole different beast to launch at the track for what i have dealt with! The 1000 is less forgiving on the launch due to the lack of torque that the Busa has. I know that i would do horribile on a 1000. You pretty much have to pin the throttle and like you said feather the clutch so that the rpm's dont drop and hope that you get a smooth launch. A Busa can bog out of the hole and still recover more so than if the 1000 bogs. I am not even close to being able to give advice on launching a Busa or a 1000!! Just speaking from what i have seen at the track and what all of the guys tell me that ride 1000's in the Super Sport class in AMA Dragbike. I know that they have to leave at a higher rpm that i do on my Busa! My best thing to do was to get as much seat time at the track as possibile. The more that i go...well used to go the more improvements that i would see....Good luck and keep me up to date on how things goes for ya!!!!

Update....I have not been on the track since i first posted this until Saturday. The only thing that i have done since then is go down one tooth on the front. I was able to do somewhat better this time. I managed to run a best of 9.671@141.70. I got my 60's down to 1.55 and my best 1/8 mile time was 6.226@115.22 so that is some inprovement for a 272 pound fat boy :thumb:

I have nothing for you all but it is great for all of us to be back at the track making passes together once again!! Hope the weather is good for the last two evnts we have left.....
