Help! APE 10mm Studs and Nuts question
« on: August 20, 2010, 07:46:21 PM »
My motor has been torn down for WAY too long and I lost the paperwork from the packages!
Do I run the stock washers under these nuts?
AND I "think" I read to torque these to 45flbs??  :?

Thanks in advanced!

Torque the studs in the block to 15# and torque the nuts, without washers, to 20-45-70#. :thumb:

Why no Washers Cory? I have always used the washers on mine. Doesn't it mess up the head surface?

Ape says no washers. I thought?

With a 0.080 spacer, the nuts wouldn't grab all the threads, on mine, with washers. I wanted to use them.

John, you and someone else has called me out on the washer thing and I've tryed to find where I read that but I can't. All I can find is everyone saying to use them.
I must be on crack!

I'm sorry, my bad. Use the washers! Hope I didn't mess anybody up!

APE told me to use the washers. You kinda damage the head surface otherwise.

Well shit...

It runs friggin sweet, so I'm gunna tell myself that it's because the washers aren't in there!

It's really not that big of a deal. First time I put my motor together with the studs I didn't use washers. Someone told me not to, but it didn't cause any problems. I'm sure you noticed when torquing the nuts down they'd catch on the head. Makes it hard to get an accurate torque reading. But if it's assembled and running good I wouldn't worry. From a longevity point washers or not makes no difference.

Ah no worries bro! I smeared some assembly lube on the head surface before putting some torque to it, everything felt good when I got done with it... :crzy:

So 20 then 45 then 70 pounds on the nuts? I'm putting mine back together without the spacer. I think stock was only 38 pounds. Just wanted to make sure this was right thanks!
