Help I broke my bike.
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:30:47 AM »
So I finally decided to go to a drag strip. Most fun I've ever had on the bike btw. I notice my chain is a little tight but my dumb ass decided to keep going(First time at the strip and no tools). I go home and I fill with c16 and turn the boost up for the next test and tune. UH OH! clicking feeling that feels like its skipping a tooth. I now notice the chain is looser than it was.  :bh: :bh: Loosen the chain and try again. No good. Noticed a tight spot in the chain so not worrying too much, ordered a new EK ZZZ. Just put in on an hour ago with a new sprocket.  :bh: :bh: :bh: IT STILL DOES IT.

WHAT HAVE I FUCKED UP? Guessing I'm going to have to split the cases? 6 over arm, race trans, and big output shaft in the motor. Motor is strong but maybe not idiot proof :cb2: :cb2:

check other sprocket for any wear. Grab the output shaft and see if there is excesive play in either direction.

No play what so ever. It still has a bone stock cluch with heavy springs with over 30k on them. 20k boosted. Still has the back torque thing. Could that be the culprit? 400hp

Check the cush drives. Maybe you terminally destroyed one launching. That would be a cheap and easy fix...45 bucks and 1/2 an hour. Does the click keep time with the wheel rotation, or with the output shaft rotation, or neither?

Double checked my chain adjustment and all is good. Happening just like the old chain did it. I noticed that it only does it in 1st and 2nd. I'm hoping its the 30k mile clutch assembly

How much you weigh?
how much slack in chain when you sit on it?
I had the same problem long ago running same gearing unless I kept chain way too tight for my liking.
Weighed 200 unsuited when problem was happening.
put a 19t sprocket on and problem gone

Chain is way too loose for the power you are trying to use, tighten the chain,

Thanks for the help everyone. I was afraid it was too tight. I thought it needed to be looser for high HP. I will tighten it up tomorrow and see what it does. When I look at drag bike pics as they are launching the chain looks really loose. Would it be safe to say I should go for 1" of play?
