FUEL PUMP ISSUE
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:12:29 AM »
On my bike 99 busa my external bosch 044 fuel pump went...

As a father's day gift my sons purchased me an exteranl walboro 255 pump.

My question is which is better for a 1397??

Can I use the Walboro and get some fittings to make it work even though the design is different ffrom the bosch pump?

Both are good.  One is louder than the other but either one of them will do the job

You guys that put aftermarket pumps on your bikes be sure and put at least a 20amp fuse in the fuel pump circuit. In the fuse block/box.

Or use a relay with larger wiring so the stock puny wiring isn't causing a significant voltage drop.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

Relay, relay, relay .....The OEM wiring is no where near the gauge to supply the amperage needed for a big a$$ pump.

Some people still use the factory wiring and it functions, but there is still a large voltage drop.

Anyone who uses the stock wiring try this test. Lift your tank or wherever you have the pump.
Turn on the key and kill switch for the pump to prime and listen to the sound of the pump.
Now make a jumper wire directly from the battery negative to the pump negative terminal
Run a wire from teh battery positive to the positive pump terminal but don't connect it.

Turn on the key and hit the kill switch to prime the pump again.
Touch the positive wire to the pump halfway through the prime cycle and listen to the pump

The sound of the pump speeding up is because of the voltage drop.
